I found a great website where you can find recipes and creat your own recipe box. It's called allrecipes.com. I like it because you can find recipes from around the world and people write in reviews with variations the've tried and suggestions for different ingredients, tips, etc.
My favourite find so far is a recipe for a Passion Fruit Mousse. You see, I grew up in Venezuela, on the north coast of South America. So as a child I ate lots of tropical fruits all the time. Tropical fruit juices and fruit desserts were common place on our dining table. Now I'm trying to make an effort to recreate that same experience for my kids.
I went to Tesco the other day and even though we don't live in a very multicultural area I felt I had gone shopping in Miami. I came back with tins of hearts of palm (in brine, like artichoke hearts), fresh plantains (like a big banana that can only be eaten once cooked), bags of ripe platain crisps, guava jam, Supermalt (a non alcoholic sweet guinness like drink with multivitamins), passion fruit juice, juice boxes of coconut water and dried mango slices.
I've been making the kids croissants with cream cheese and guava. They love them. And they love their coconut water juice boxes. My husband loves the platain crisps and I must say I enjoy snacking on them on a rainy afternoon, sitting in my cosy front room, under a blanket whilst sipping a nice glass of chilled Supermalt. For a few minutes I'm 12 again.
