Last month I read Town of Widows by James Canon. It's set in a small town in Colombia All the men of the village are taking by guerillas and the women have to fend for themselves; in doing so they end up creating a whole new culture and social/political structure. It's a great read and very interesting especially if you are into women's studies literature.

Last week I finished reading the sequel to Wicked: The Life and Times of the wicked With of the West. This book is called Son of a Witch. The first book provided the original idea for the West End Musical which I can also recommend...it's fantastic! But the books are darker and the plots are full of political, social and religious themes. Son of a Witch follows the young life of the alleged son of the Wicked Witch, Elphaba. It has a great ending and it's superbly written.

This week I started reading Gaudi's Key by Esteban Martin and Andreu Carranza. It's very similar to the DaVinci Code. It's got the familiar plot of the granddaughter trying to decipher clues that the grandfather has left around the city of Barcelona in Gaudi's architecture, etc. And her mission is to safeguard 'the secret' of the Knights of Moriah, another religious organisation. And some baddies from a 'satanic sect' are after her and the secret. So again, it's like the DaVinci Code but instead of being set in Paris is set in Barcelona. If you've ever been to Barcelona and love Gaudi's work, and if you're into this sort of read you might like this book. I certainly find it very hard to put down.
